2018 – A Year of Goals & Mindfulness

I’m still in full 2018 New Year motivation mode. None of that “New Year, New Me” nonsense over here though. I’ve had many years of setting resolutions and not sticking to them. So, instead of resolutions, I like to set goals. A couple of years ago my goal was to learn how to cook, another year it was to complete a half marathon, and so on. My 2015 and 2016 goals were to have a baby – took a while, but we got there!

This year, I have a list of goals that I hope to accomplish in 2018. I also plan to incorporate mindfulness into my life this year – not so much a goal, but a lifestyle change that I hope to achieve. I hope that writing this post (that’s a little far from my usual) will keep me focused on this path for the year, and might even inspire some of you to join me.

My 2018 Goals

Cook Often

I love to cook. I’m not particularly good at it, or skilled with techniques, but it relaxes me. Juggling a baby and the chaos of last year left little opportunity for cooking, so this year I hope to cook more often.

Learn New Recipes

Hand in hand with the goal to cook more, I’d like to learn how to cook some new dishes and try some new cuisines.

Blog Weekly

I’m hoping to keep up with my blogging, and aim to post new content once a week. I recapped my 2017 blogging journey here, and I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings!

Read One Book per Month

I love reading. There is nothing better than cosying up with a good book. However, with a wobbling toddler to chase, bottles to wash and all the rest, it can be hard to find the time for reading. My goal is to read at least one book per month this year, which I think is do-able! I’m open to recommendations so let me know what the last good book you read was!

New Experiences with Jack

I sometimes forget that pretty much everything is brand new to Jack. He’ll be walking soon, and will have so much more freedom. This year, I hope to bring him as many new experiences as I can. I plan to spend plenty of time outside, even if it’s just showing him how to play with the dog or play on the swing. I hope that we can continue exploring our local parks and walks, and visit new places like Newgrange Farm.

Pass my Irish Driving Test

Like a complete idiot, I let my drivers license lapse. I’m currently driving on my US license, which is only allowable for 12 months. Soooo, this is a goal I HAVE to achieve this year. If you spot me out doing the mandatory lessons, give me a beep!


Travel is a goal every year. In 2018, I want to visit my lovely bestie in St Louis, visit family & friends in San Francisco, and visit one new city. Toddler in tow!

Get Published in Print 

I’ve had several articles published online in Mummypages and MumsOnline, but I hope 2018 is the year that I’ll have an article published in print, like a magazine or newspaper.

Practice Mindfulness

Life has been going at 100 MPH for the past few years, and I have felt burned out on more than one occasion. This year is going to be the year that I start to take more time for myself, and practice mindfulness. This excellent post by Kate from Kate Takes 5 has inspired me to join the “one word” movement. My word for the year is “breathe”. I’ve downloaded an app of the same name to help me incorporate mindfulness into my day, and I plan to join a weekly yoga class.

I’d love to hear what your plans or goals are for 2018. Hopefully this post will keep me motivated, and I’ll report back on my progress. Remember if you see me driving around with L plates, be kind!
